A little about Nonie
As founder of “Mariposa Counselling Services”, my name is Nonie Cohen and I am a person-centred counsellor, supervisor and trainer I also work individually with children through child-centred therapeutic play.
- I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
- I have worked continually as a person-centred counsellor and trainer for over 20 years.
- I have taught on counselling MA programmes both at the University of Durham and the University of Newcastle.
- I have also taught on Masters programmes in the British Council, Hong Kong, and for the Kenya Association of Professional Counsellors (KAPC) in Nairobi.
- I have been a counselling supervisor for CRUSE Bereavement Care for the last 11 years.
- For five years I have worked in a primary school counselling children through therapeutic play.
- I am a regular reviewer of play therapy literature for the BACP’s Journal on "Counselling Children and Young Persons".
Whilst my core theoretical model is ‘Rogerian’ person-centred counselling, I have trained widely in other models and can offer a customised approach to respond to the unique needs of individual clients.
And a little about our training services
“Mariposa Counselling Services” is also proud to offer quality training events which will normally take place on the final Saturday of each month during term time. Many of the trainers are former counselling lecturers from the Centre for Studies in Counselling at the University of Durham, which for more than three decades enjoyed an international reputation as a centre of excellence in counselling training, which included Masters programmes, BACP accredited training programmes and also producing over the years, a steady stream of successful Doctoral graduates from the four corners of the globe.
The contributors to MARIPOSA TRAINING from June 2008 – June 2009 include: Professor Colin Feltham of Sheffield Hallam University, Doctor William West of Manchester University, Doctor Maggie Robson of Keele University, John McGuiness of Durham University, Carmel Slawski of Tynemet College of Further and Higher Education, Peter Cook of Durham University, and Christine Everatt.
